Our Mission Statement

The mission of the National Kidney Foundation of Maine is to prevent kidney and urinary tract diseases, improve the health and well being of individuals and families affected by these diseases, and increase the availability of all organs for transplantation.

Our Vision Statement

It is the vision of the National Kidney Foundation of Maine to improve the quality of life for Maine patients and their families. We are committed to making lives better through education, advocacy, information and direct financial assistance. As one of 41 affiliates, we are part of the largest non-profit organization promoting organ and tissue donation to secure the future for all patients needing transplantation.

 




 







 

Facts...

 

More than 20 million Americans suffer from diseases of the kidney and urinary tract. Nearly 50,000 die each year from these diseases.

 

Nearly 350,000 Americans suffer from chronic kidney failure. Each year, another 75,000 join them - an annual growth of more than 7%

 

Kidney disease is no respecter of age. It affects people of all ages and all walks of life.

 

Potentially, 146,000 Mainer's at risk for some form of kidney disease.

 

950 people are currently on dialysis.

 

130 are currently waiting for a kidney transplant.

 

54 people, on average, receive a kidney transplant each year.

 

1 in 9 people, over the age of 20, has kidney disease and does not know it.
